Company History
Founded in December 1960, Miller Scales & Food Machines, Inc. has grown from a two person business started in Bud and Virginia Miller's garage to the leading supplier of smoke cooking and meat processing equipment, ingredients and butcher supplies in the Tri-State area.
In 1967, Bud Miller hired Joe Skinner as a service technician and in 1972 Murray Miller joined the team as an outside salesman. Bud trained his recruits well in the art of customer service and good business practices and in 1989 Bud and Virginia Miller retired. Murray Miller and Joe Skinner assumed operation of Miller Scales as partners.
In 1978, we started selling indoor smokehouses to the meat processing industry in Indiana and Ohio and in 1987 we assumed responsibility for Michigan as well.
Since 1978, we have sold well over 200 units ranging in size from 300 to 3,000 lb. capacity. We represent ALKAR, the worldwide leader in smokehouse manufacturing as well as our house brand MILLER smokehouses in smaller sizes. We are also a distributor for SOUTHERN PRIDE smokers and barbecue pits. Our processing equipment lines include Berkel, Biro, Lance, Promarks, Sipromac and Stancase. Our retail scale lines are TEC and CAS, as well as Weigh-tronix industrial scales.
Our customer base includes meat processing plants, specialty markets, food service accounts and supermarkets. We have successfully developed and maintained long-term relationships with our customers. Many of our relationships span 20 years and more.
In 1992, we started a seasoning and ingredient program with A. C. Legg, Inc. of Birmingham, Alabama as our supplier and in 1996, we added Excalibur seasonings and cures to our product line.
1997 Saw the introduction of our Country Blend®- SUPERSCRIPT retail product line using the same high quality blends that we sell to the trade.
In 1995, we developed a sales and delivery system to sell seasonings, packaging materials, patty paper and butcher supply items to the trade. Our route truck currently services the entire state of Indiana and most of Ohio with scheduled delivery every six weeks.
We have been active in meat industry trade associations for over 25 years and believe that membership and participation is a valuable asset for anyone related to the meat industry.
